The Richardson Hotel in Buffalo, New York — once known as Hotel Henry — carries with it a profound and complex history. Originally built as the Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane, the structure was designed by the legendary architect Henry Hobson Richardson. When it opened its doors in 1880, it served as a mental health institution for nearly 100 years, becoming one of the most significant examples of 19th-century reform-era architecture and care. In a transformative moment, the property was purchased, restored, and reborn as The Richardson Hotel — officially reopening its doors on March 3rd 2023
