In this video, Chad R. Baker, OD, Optometrist at The Vision Care Center in Evansville, Indiana, explains dry eye syndrome. Dry eye is one of the most common eye conditions to treat. Dry eyes frequently cause burning, watering and intermittent blurred vision. There are multiple causes of dry eye ranging from a deficiency in the oil layer of tears to decreased aqueous production from the tear gland. Artificial tears, lid scrubs and fish oil tablets have been used to help dry eyes. If more help is needed, your eye doctor can prescribe dry eye medications. Itchy eyes are usually due to allergies. There are multiple medicines that help decrease an allergic reaction. There are antihistamine drops and pills that are over the counter at pharmacies that can help. Eye doctors can prescribe other allergy drops or steroids.
