If you’re looking for a Utah desert MTB area for a weekend trip, you’re probably looking at Moab. Or maybe the St. George/Hurricane/Virgin area, where Redbull Rampage is held every year. All of those are fantastic options and absolutely worthy of a weekend trip. If you’re prioritizing downhill shuttle laps, however, those areas start to feel a bit lacking in that aspect. Yes, you can always get a Porcupine Rim or Whole Enchilada shuttle, or maybe a Mag 7 shuttle. But what you might not realize is these routes often have multiple thousands of feet of climbing involved in them. Enter: Richfield, Utah In one day, I was able to make the 2 hour drive from Salt Lake City to Richfield and get 3 shuttle laps down some of the BEST desert downhill in ALL of Utah. You can also schedule a shuttle company for about $25 dollars per person for these trails with companies like @riderichfield or @richfieldbikeshuttle. I brought two trucks down with me and we shuttled ourselves. This is what my day looked like: 1st LAP: TELEGRAPH 5.21 Miles 2nd LAP: SPINAL TAP (MIDDLE) 10.23 Miles 3rd LAP: SPINAL TAP (LOWER) 6.23 Miles These are both rated as black trails and they definitely require some intermediate skills to ride them. Telegraph is a bit more of a flow trail with some option drops along the way. Spinal Tap is a bit more technical and has numerous rock drop options and rock waterfalls to rip down. Richfield has just about everything I’m looking for in a desert riding day and I’ve chosen it over the likes of St. George or Moab many times over the last couple years. Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed. My bike: 2023 Specialized Stumpjumper EVO LTD Mullet. I’m running Continental Kryptotal front(23)/rear(25) with downhill casing and super soft compound (cushcore in rear). PNW aluminum bars with 35mm rise. Lewis LH4 brakes with SRAM HS2 200mm rotors. Rockshox Lyrik and Vivid Ultimate Coil. Both are running with nearly completely firm (+) compression to stay composed through the heavy drops and impacts. #mtb #mtblife #mtblove #bikelove #bikelover #bikelovers #mtblifestyle #downhill #stumpjumperevo #insta360 #utahisrad #mountainbike #mountainbiking #happyriding #technicalmtb #happyriding #ridefox #dhmtb #utah #utahisrad
