The Story of "Alien World" | John Donovan Productions

During the early #1990s, while several #animation studios were experiencing a Renaissance, a very young and impressionable John Donovan was influenced to create his own #merchandise and #themepark style attractions based upon the stories of those reimagined studios. Amidst the plethora of #Disney-inspired projects, one original idea came to life- the #story of “Alien World.” The very short story first appeared as a #readalong book. #AlienWorld follows the solo journey of an #alien named Sam. On his flight through space, a level breaks; sending his spaceship careening out of control! It his fortuitous luck that another alien appears to give the stranded adventurer a ride home. While flying past the Milky Way, in classic comic animation style, the ship crashes into one of the literal #MilkyWay bottles. In the end, Sam returns home where he finds his family celebrating their reunion! Inspired by the #storybook and cassette tape #readalong sets, the “Alien World” recording was included in a plastic bag pouch along with the “glow-in-the-dark” book that featured neon colored posterboard cut outs. Dated at around 1992 or 1993, this is most likely the oldest original character and story that was created by John Donovan. Stay connected with us!
