(27 Aug 1998) English/Nat South African President Nelson Mandela has visited Planet Hollywood in Cape Town, the scene of the bomb blast which claimed the life of one man and injured 27 other people on Tuesday night . Afterwards, he spoke of his deep shock over the incident and said if the bombers were trying to hurt America, their intentions were misplaced. Four American F-B-I (Federal Bureau of Investigation) agents have also visited the restaurant to help the South African investigators solve the attack. And the group which initially claimed responsibility has condemned the attack denying they were involved. Cape Town's Planet Hollywood has been transformed from a fashionable restaurant to a crime scene following Tuesday's bomb attack. The South African president paid a surprise visit to the site where one man died and nearly thirty people were injured when what is believed to be a pipe bomb exploded. President Nelson Mandela was briefed by the National Police Commissioner George Fivaz inside the premises. After his visit, Mandela expressed his disgust at the attack. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I have felt, like many people have, the sense of deep shock that a human being can slaughter and injure, and maim so many people who are absolutely innocent. If the idea was to hit against the United States of America - it's wrongly misplaced." SUPER CAPTION: Nelson Mandela, South African President Four American F-B-I (Federal Bureau of Investigation) agents have also visited the restaurant to help the South African investigators solve the attack. Two of the agents came from the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, where they were investigating bombings earlier this month at the U-S embassy there and in Tanzania. The only claim of responsibility for bombing initially came from a caller to a radio station who said he represented the anti-American, anti-Israeli group called 'Muslims Against Global Oppression.' The group later denied being behind the attack and condemned the act, but slipped in a political message at the same time. SOUNDBITE: (English) "We do not believe that this act was retaliation, rather it is a simply senseless, inhumane and unjustifiable crime similar to that which America committed in bombing Afghanistan and Sudan." SUPER CAPTION: Nutchsa Safodien, MAGO Police arrested two women and a man at Cape Town International Airport late on Thursday who belonged to a mostly Muslim vigilante group, People Against Gangsterism and Drugs. Police said they were arrested for passport violations, but although they were not connected to the bombing, they would be questioned about it. The wife of the man arrested was furious the media had been alerted and was there to film them. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I said close your eyes, close my eyes, close your face with this scarf because I mean they (inaudible) - that's what's embarrassing me in front of all these people, all these Muslim people, what must they think? We are terrorists or something? That's what's unfair, gets the (inaudible) over, people are throwing bombs again, it's not fair, man, it's not fair." SUPER CAPTION: Wallid Suliman, wife of arrested man The investigation suffered a setback earlier when police found that footage from security cameras was actually shot more than a month ago. The footage showed a man behaving in a way police described as "highly suspicious."
