Swiss Bicycling: Rigi Kulm 4K

In this ride we conquer the Rigi mountain, also aptly named the Queen of the Mountains, in Central Switzerland. We start out at the shores of Lake Zug and soon pull away from the busy road and onto the Chneustrasse, a narrow mountain road. After a while going uphill - a long while - we pass the Fruttli station of the Rigi mountain train line, one of the first installed in the Alps, dating back to 1871. From here on, the road becomes progressively steeper and more difficult to navigate. Please note that in this barely ridable setion, the camera is at times weaving back and forth. We follow the Staffelweg up to the Rigi Staffel train station and on onto the difficult section of the ride, very steep, with poor road condition and many tourists on foot. Eventually we reach the summit of Mount Rigi, having climbed 1400 m and get to enjoy a wonderful view on surrounding lakes and mountains. We will now descend down the Rigi on its other side, mostly on dirt roads. A Swiss bonus included - navigating through a herd of cows (at 2:41:50)! Eventually we reach tarmac again and continue all the way down to Lake Lucerne and the town of Gersau. We finish with a mostly flat three lake tour – Lake Lucerne, followed by Lake Lauerz and finally reaching Lake Zug where we finish with a view on the mountain peak we just conquered.
