On 17 January, we carried out winter-condition measurements on the ice-covered Ķīšezers lake in Riga, a location planned for everyday drone operations. A key role in 5G4LIVES is led by the Electronic Communications Office of Latvia (ECO), the national frequency spectrum administration. In this project, ECO provides expertise in radio-frequency spectrum usage and is responsible for developing a measurement methodology that can later be used to assess network performance when replicating similar solutions across Europe. Measurements carried out on site: – Drone-based measurements using ECO’s drones, equipment, and methodology – Passive mode measurements for 5G coverage validation (listening to the network, receiving signals from base stations, estimating signal levels) – Active measurements for 5G network performance estimation (uplink/downlink data stream generation, checking bitrate and latency) – Testing the hypothesis whether seasonal natural conditions affect the propagation of 5G radio signals in locations planned for the project This is the second time these measurements were carried out, following the first round in summer, enabling comparison across seasonal conditions. Project partners: Riga Digital Agency (Development Department), Municipal Police, LMT Innovations, Elektroniskie sakari (ECO), VEFRESH, Comune di Torino, Politecnico di Torino, Windtre – Business Partner
