This gentleman had half of his pelvis removed (i.e hemipelvectomy) for the treatment of sarcoma, which is a soft tissue cancer that when untreated can lead to amputation or death. After the orthopedic team removed half of the pelvis, the left leg was completely detached from the body. By elevating multiple muscles (i.e. flaps) I was able to secure the leg to the torso. Believe it or not over the next few months, scar tissue will develop to the point that this patient will be able to walk with weight on his leg.
