When US Marines Saw The Aussie "Shoot And Scoot" — And Realized They Were Sitting Ducks US Marine doctrine in Vietnam often involved "fixing" the enemy—making contact and then pinning them down while calling in massive artillery and air support. The Australians viewed this as suicide. Their tactic was "Shoot and Scoot"—dump a massive volume of fire in the first 10 seconds of an ambush to confuse the enemy, and then immediately vanish into the jungle before the enemy could return fire. The video focuses on a joint operation where Marines tried to hold their ground and fight a pitched battle, while the SAS peeled away. The Marines were initially furious, thinking the Aussies were fleeing, until they realized the SAS had flanked the enemy and wiped them out from the side. It’s a lesson in maneuver warfare schooling static warfare.
