MetroTV, Thousands of mourners gathered at the Cultural Centre of the Iranian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on Monday for a memorial ceremony honouring Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other victims of the recent US-Israeli military strikes. Footage shows the crowd, which included Iranian nationals and local residents. Some women were seen praying beside portraits of the late leader, while others wept as the Malaysian capital became a focal point for regional expressions of grief and solidarity with Iran. The memorial coincided with strong official condemnation from Malaysia’s government on Tuesday, when Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim led parliament in observing a moment of silence for Khamenei, top Iranian officials, and other Iranians killed in the attacks, including over 100 female students from the Minab region. Speaking before lawmakers, Anwar tabled an emergency motion denouncing the strikes as ‘barbaric and violent,’ characterising them as acts of cruelty and repeated violations of international law. “In my view, what is happening to Iran today has significant implications for other countries as well, especially if stronger and more effective measures are not taken to address it,” said Halim, an activist and political analyst. “We cannot predict what might happen, as we know that America tends to act according to its own interests. If they do not achieve their objectives, they create pretexts or justifications for warfare. We saw this in Iraq before—how narratives were constructed to justify war. That is my personal opinion.” Ikmal Emir from the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) remarked, “I am confident that the Iranian people, no matter what happens, will not surrender—even if faced with nuclear attacks.” “Thus, the most pressing matter is that we must unite between Shia and Sunni, rather than fighting amongst ourselves.” The memorial gathering in Kuala Lumpur reflects a broader wave of mourning across the Muslim world, following protests in Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Kashmir.
