Hotels in Bengaluru and Chennai are raising concerns about commercial LPG shortage amid rising West Asia tensions. Bengaluru hotels report having stock for only 12 to 72 hours and plan to brief the central government. A similar situation has emerged in Chennai, where hoteliers have demanded uninterrupted gas supply from central and state governments. In Pune, the largest crematorium is facing an LPG shortage, with gas available for only two cremations, forcing authorities to use electric pyres. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed refineries to ramp up LPG production, prioritising household supply. The government has introduced a 25-day inter-booking gap to prevent hoarding, while imported LPG is being prioritised for essential sectors like hospitals and educational institutions.
