While studying the crucifixion and the final Passover of Jesus, I came across a word in Exodus that added a new lens for how I saw things play out in the Garden of Gethsemane. In Exodus 12:42, Passover is described as a “night to be much observed.” In Hebrew, that phrase literally means a night of watching (“shimmurim” = שמרים). When I noticed that phrase, it immediately brought me back to the moment in Gethsemane when Jesus rebuked the disciples: “Could you not watch with me one hour?” That discovery sent me down a rabbit hole (as usual) through Scripture: • Exodus 12:42 • Genesis 2: 15 • Luke 21:36 • Revelation 3:10 • Revelation 1:3 • the Garden of Eden • the Garden of Gethsemane I'm still here with a question I can’t shake: If Passover is literally called a night of watching, and Jesus rebuked the disciples for sleeping that night… what might it actually mean for believers to watch for the rapture vs. Jesus' Second Coming? I’m currently in the process of exploring these patterns in much more detail. It may need to a mini-series at this point. But with Passover fast approaching, I wanted to share this discovery now so you have time to search scripture for yourselves. At the end of the video, I invite everyone to share what you see in these passages. If this turns into a mini-series, I’d love for it to become a group effort — just like how communities gather for a vigil, waiting for someone they love to come home. Let’s zoom in -- and out -- on God's Word together.
