Sorry about the framerate drops; it really does run this bad on modern PCs. Today is the 20th anniversary of Requiem: Avenging Angel, a somewhat unique and Kingpin-esque shooter with a tiny cult following. It was considered mediocre even for its time, but the angelic powers were definitely innovative. Seriously, can you name a single other game from 1999 with bullet-time in it? Unfortunately, Requiem tends to lean more towards the "Shogo" era of gaming rather than the "Half-Life" side. It's a rather hard sell for today's DUSK-playing crowd. The audio in Requiem is admittedly pretty bad, but DSOAL helps make it a bit more immersive. The EAX is too loud compared to hardware, so use boost=-6 in alsoft.ini. What's really weird about this game is its mixing. The sound is somehow too loud and too quiet at the same time--I had to boost the gain by 8dB in my video editor! The player's gunshots are way too quiet, but some ambient world sounds are just way too loud. OpenAL Soft's hard limiter might be partially to blame, as the gunshots weren't as quiet when I used Creative ALchemy.
