~ One of the very best live acts from the bay area after their formation in 1967...featuring two female musicians/vocalists in terry garthwaite & toni brown who both had earlier folk club backgrounds but then adding further musicians joy of cooking came into being over in berkeley...after playing around the bay area for a few years they were finally spotted at 'mandrakes' in berkeley by capital records (circa 1970) and were soon signing on the doted line...the group were : terry garthwaite/her brother david/toni brown/ron wilson & drummer fritz kasten ex big brother (pre joplin) & vince guaraldi...brown in fact was in a string band 'the crabgrasses' in her early folkie days...a debut album was released in february '71 & recorded at pacific high recording featuring david garthwaite on bass but he left shortly after for fresh pastures and replaced by jeff neighbor ex denny zeitlin group...two further albums would quickly follow but this track comes from a live performance captured at 'the fillmore west' may '71 'did you go downtown' (poster included) and shows just how musicial the group were and sounding so relaxed in doing so...a fine testament to their roots and if you enjoy live recordings do track it down 'aircuts label' 2017.
