It operates as train number 11040 from Gondia Junction to SCSMT Kolhapur and as train number 11039 in the reverse direction. It holds the current record for the longest distance covered in one state as its entire run of 1,348 km (838 mi) is entirely within Maharashtra. This train is named after the state of Maharashtra. Although its name puts it in the league of trains named after their states .i.e. Kerala Express, Tamil Nadu Express, Andhra Pradesh Express etc., it does not connect the state & national capitals. The 11039/11040 Gondia–Kolhapur Maharashtra Express presently has 1 AC 2 Tier, 4 AC 3 Tier, 8 Sleeper Class , 4 General Unreserved , 1 SLR , 1 EOG LHB coaches. The 11039 Gondia–Kolhapur Maharashtra Express covers the distance of 1,348 km (838 mi) in 28 hours 45 mins averaging 46.82 km/h & 28 hours 25 mins as 11040 Kolhapur–Gondia Maharashtra Express averaging 47.37 km/h. Gondia Junction (station code: G) serves Gondia in Gondia district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is one of the important railway stations in India of South East central railways zone railways. This station is India's third and first in Vidarbha to get mist cooling system.Its falls under nagpur division. The Nagpur Chhattisgarh Railway started construction of the 240 km (149 mi) Nagpur–Rajnandgaon section in 1878, after surveys were started in 1871. The Nagpur–Tumsar Road section was opened in April 1880 and the Tumsar Road–Rajnandgaon section in December 1880. The Bengal Nagpur Railway was formed in 1887 for the purpose of upgrading the Nagpur Chhattisgarh Railway and then extending it via Bilaspur to Asansol. The Bengal Nagpur Railway main line from Nagpur to Asansol, on the Howrah–Delhi main line, was opened for goods traffic on 1 February 1891. The Gondia–Nagbhir–Nagpur line was opened for traffic in 1908. The Gondia–Nainpur line of the Satpura Railway was opened on 13 April 1903. The Gondia–Jabalpur line has already been upgraded to 5 ft 6 in (1,676 mm) broad gauge and it is single line electrified section.This is the shortest route for trains going from Allahabad/Katni side to Chennai/Hyderabad/Bengaluru side and vice versa will get a cut-down reduced distance by around 250 km. Gondia will become a meeting point of the east–west and north–south cross-country routes. Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus (officially Shri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus Kolhapur) (station code: KOP) is the main railway terminus in the city of Kolhapur, India. It is the end point of the Miraj to Kolhapur railway line and falls under Pune division. It has a freight yard called Gur Market with a capacity of five freight trains nearly 4 km (2.5 miles) away from the station. Kolhapur is the centre of trade for southern Maharashtra (with electrification between Miraj and Kolhapur). This station connects Kolhapur with major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Dhanbad through express trains. Some important express trains are the Mahalaxmi Express (Kolhapur–Mumbai), Deekshabhoomi Express (Kolhapur - Dhanbad), and Haripriya Express (Kolhapur–Tirupati). IRCTC also runs the tourist luxury train Deccan Odyssey at Kolhapur station. There are daily passenger shuttle services between Kolhapur, Miraj and Pune. The Minister of Railways announced the Miraj–Kolhapur–Vaibhavwadi rail route and electrification of Kolhapur-miraj–Pune rail route in 2016–17. Miraj–Kolhapur–Vaibhavwadi rail route will have new station of Kolhapur at Kasaba Bawada since the original Kolhapur station is in the busiest point of the city. New line will start from Rukadi towards Vaibhavwadi through Kasaba Bawada area of Kolhapur. Currently, the station is being upgraded under Amrit Bharat scheme.
