This was an unexpected stop on our road to Hana journey but it turned out to be one of our favorites. This is a small beach made up of tiny red and black rock. To call it sand is a bit of a stretch.. as it's a bit rocky and coarse on the feet. The crescent-shaped beach is cut deep into the Ka’uiki Head cinder cone. The rust-red lava cliffs that surround this beach supplies it with its red sand. Part of this trail was lost in a landslide and can be a bit sketchy in some parts. This is a slippery trail on the cliff edge with some spectacular views of the rocky sea cliffs. This trail should only be used by people who are used to hiking slick trails and can navigate cliff edges with confidence. I've read many horror stories of tourists falling off the cliffside resulting in serious injury. Please approach this trail with caution.
