For most of the 20th century, Akron, Ohio was the rubber capital of the world. At its peak, this one American city produced 40% of every tire on Earth. Companies like Goodyear, Firestone, and B.F. Goodrich employed tens of thousands of workers and turned Akron into one of the fastest-growing industrial cities in the United States. Entire neighborhoods were built around the factories. The smell of rubber in the air meant something simple: paychecks, stability, and a future. But the global tire industry changed. Radial tire technology, foreign competition, corporate debt, and manufacturing shifts slowly dismantled the industrial machine that built the city. Factories closed. Tens of thousands of jobs disappeared. And the massive Goodyear industrial complex that once powered Akron slowly turned into silence. This documentary explores the rise of Akron’s rubber empire and the long collapse that followed. #rubbercapital #goodyear #akronohio #industrialhistory #americanmanufacturing #businessdocumentary #economicdecline
