Gregory Tino is a badass nonspeaking activist who learned to communicate with S2C, or spelling to communicate. S2C and RPM (rapid prompting method) combine elements of physical therapy to help with motor planning, literacy instruction, and neuroscience to help apraxic autistics with gradually improving motor planning so that they can begin by typing on a letterboard stencil, then gradually moving to a paper letterboard. With the help of a CRP (communication and regulation partner), S2C and RPM users are helped to keep their focus on a task. Many, but not all, people who spell to communicate (spellers) go on to type independently or even gain the motor control to write with a pencil.
