30 Mark-I+6 Mark-II for IA SWATHI Weapon locating radar is an electronically scanned phased array radar which automatically locates hostile artillery, mortars and rocket launchers and tracks friendly fire to locate the impact point of friendly artillery fire to issue necessary corrections. Recently, we have reported that the Indian Army has put up a proposal worth Rs1000 crore to the defence ministry for buying 12 Swathi weapon-locating radars. As per the latest report by The Indian Express, BEL has received an order for the procurement of 6 Units of Swathi WLR Mark-II version worth Rs 400 crores. Indian Army already operates 30 units of Swathi WLR Mark-I version and has performed exceedingly well at LoC. Mini-Swathi WLR After the success of Swathi Radar and impressed with its performance, Indian Army has asked DRDO to develop a lighter version of this Radar - we can call it Mini or Swathi version 2. The existing version of Swathi WLR is mounted on a 8X8 Tatra Truck which is mobile, however Indian Army wanted a much lighter version of Swathi WLR which can be mounted on a 6X6 wheeled platform which further improves the mobility of the radar on mountainous terrains where the roads are narrow and mobility is a big challenge. The new Mini-Swathi will features a fixed radar array that has a 90-degree view which will be mounted on a BEML 6×6 truck. Even though its smaller in size when compared to its predecessor, it’s equally and even more effective in certain parameters. Working of Swathi The Swathi detects the origin of the fire of artillery shells, mortars and rockets based on their projectile motion and trajectory. With the help of its C-Band Phased array radar, it is able to change the direction of its radar wave just by shifting the phase of its signal electronically without physically moving the antenna. This enables Swathi radar to cover wider area much quickly. It can not only track and locate the enemy fire position for artilleries, mortars & rockets but can also track the fall of shot from friendly guns and provide corrections to counter fire. Technical Specifications Swathi has instrumented range of 50KMs with probability of detection as 90%. It can operate from -30 to +55 degree Celsius. It can also operate from an altitude of 16,000ft and can be deployed within 30mins for action. For a 81mm or larger mortar its detection range is 4-20km, for a 105mm or larger gun its detection range is 4 to 30km, for free flight rockets its detection range is 6 to 40km and for 155mm rockets or guns its range is 30km. It can track upto 7 targets simultaneously from different directions. The Target information of upto 99 targets is presented as a high-resolution multi-mode colour display on the ruggedised power PCs in real time and can be overlaid on a digital map. The WLR can store a large (100 km X 100km) digital map for display purposes. SWATHI is networked with Artillery units through the SHAKTI Artillery Combat, Command and Control System (ACCCS), which in turn automates and facilitates decision support for all the operational aspects of Artillery functions from the Corps down to the Artillery Battery (subunit) level in a networked environment. ==========WHOMSOEVER IT MAY CONCERN============= Most of the pictures clip or BGM included in the Video Belongs to their Respected Owners and we do not claim rights.
