Alabama Music Office.com goes to Moonlight On The Mountain in Bluff Park, Alabama to attend a special night-Todd Simpson-My Songs, My Stories, My Life. Todd and Wes Simpson delivered a acoustic performance that will long be remembered. Todd picked up a harmonica the age of 8 while his dad ( Wes ) and a friend were playing guitars. Being able to play immediately Todd shared the stage with blues legend Willie King 3 days later at a major festival. Playing a fifty minute set Todd took solo breaks on every song. At the end of the 3 day festival Todd’s performance was named as one of the Top Ten Highlights of the festival. Todd continued play thru the south with old school bluesmen for the next few years. As a senior in high school Todd watched a Jimi Hendrix video and told his dad that he thought he wanted to do “that”. Being an auditory learner his dad was having a hard time teaching Todd to play the same as he would teach someone else. While his dad was pondering the situation Todd began to play “ VooDoo Chile”. His dad began to play chord progressions and the music began to flow from Todd. After an hour his dad went downstairs to get his mother ( Ina ) and told her “you have got to see this”. That was the beginning of Todd Simpson and Mojo Child. He played his first gig as a guitar player about a week later and has been doing it ever since. With in months he entered a local Battle of the Blues Band competition In Birmingham Al. and won. He advanced to the International Blues Challenge In Memphis Tn. with 164 competitors from 32 countries and was one of the final 8 competing for the title of King Of Beale Street. Todd and his band, with their unique ability to improvise and follow Todd’s cues, have shared stages with acts such as The Marshal Tucker Band, The Allman Brothers Band, Phil Lesh and Friends, Huey Lewis, Paul Thorn, Charlie Daniels, Vinny Martel and others. Todd has played hundreds of shows across many states introducing crowds to a unique style of music that blends blues ,soul, rock and even hip hop together in a pure and natural way. Todd released a self produced CD “ Kaleidoscope” that contains ten of his original songs. His second release ‘The Powerof Love’ will be out in April 2016. Perhaps it is necessary to experience these hard times to fully realize our gifts but one thing is sure and that is that Todd Simpson is pure and real and he connects with audiences because he is able to emotionally connect with the songs that he sings. It is often expressed by observers that they have never witnessed more passion and emotion from an artist and he is often referred to as a vessel for the music. This only confirms to Todd and his inner circle that he is doing exactly what he was put here to do ,as well as confirming the power that music has to make a difference in peoples lives. video by Jerry W.
