Are wetlands the superheroes of the natural world? Dr Christian Dunn discusses how swamps, bogs, marshes and fens are responsible for the creation of civilisations and cultures. They are home to countless species of wildlife, protect our coastlines, prevent our homes and cities from being flooded, give us food and medicines, clean our water and even control our climate. A former journalist and editor, Dr Christian Dunn is a senior research lecturer in the School of Natural Sciences at Bangor University, and associate director of the Bangor Wetlands Group. Christian is an active researcher in all aspects of wetland science and ecology, having studied wetlands around the world. Alongside his research he is an award-winning environmental campaigner and public speaker, though as a passionate advocate of the importance of wetland habitats, he is never happier than when he’s wading around them in his wellies. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
