Newly-released security footage shows the moment man grabbed a soldier from behind and took her hostage, before being shot by authorities. The video footage showed the attacker grabbing the soldier around the shoulders, as her companion patrolled an area slightly ahead of her. He dropped his shopping bag, which authorities said contained a flask of gasoline. Holding a revolver loaded with a kind of shotgun shell known as birdshot, he pulled the soldier backwards. In an interview on Sunday with French radio Europe 1, a man identified as the suspect's father said that Belgacem was not a practicing Muslim and drank alcohol.
