As part of FR 322: Movements and Perspectives, students in the College of LAS at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign participated in the Choix Goncourt US—the American counterpart to France’s Prix Goncourt, awarded annually since 1903. This immersive course invited students to dive deep into four nominated novels, explore the impact of literary prizes, and reflect on how stories shape identity and global understanding. After thoughtful discussion, students selected "Triste tigre" as their winner and elected a delegate to travel to New York, joining students from across the country to help decide the national awardee.
