How To Prepare For A Cyclone

CYCLONE PREPARATIONS Four million people have been told to prepare themselves and their homes for Tropical Cyclone Alfred which is expected to cross the south-east Queensland coast early on Friday morning. Someone who knows a lot about getting ready for cyclones is Gillian, from Get Ready Queensland. She says one of the most important things to do is to know your risk. Make sure you go to trusted sources of information, so your local council disaster dashboard. The weather will be different depending on where you live, so finding out if you live in a disaster risk area and keeping up to date with weather warnings is super important. Gillian says the Bureau of Meteorology has a really great app that you can download for weather updates, and they have a cyclone tracker on there. The next step is to make a plan, which could include clean up around the yard, to make sure there's no loose objects that could fly around. Make sure that your car is safe undercover and making sure that you've got food for your pets. Step number 3 is pack an emergency kit. Your emergency kit is a box. It's got all the things in it that you might need if you're going to be isolated at home. Gillian says it could be up to two or three days, even if the power and if the power goes out. So things like canned food, maybe some snacks, toilet paper, hand sanitiser, torches, batteries, candles, some board games, medication and, of course, water. Most importantly make sure you stay safe and look out for each other. Stay inside, stay in a room that's internal that doesn't have windows or doors on it if you can. Make sure that you look after your friends and family and your neighbourhood community is so important at this point in time. CRICKET Australia's Champions Trophy title hopes are over. After winning the toss and electing to bat in the semi-final in Dubai, Australia clocked 264 runs, with half-centuries from Steve Smith and Alex Carey. But it wasn't enough, with India's Viral Kohli scoring 84 off 98 balls, guiding India to a four wicket win, with 11 balls to spare. YOUTUBE SOCIAL MEDIA BAN Australia's social media ban for kids under 16 in Australia is still full steam ahead. But some companies are annoyed that one big platform won't be include - YouTube. While the video-sharing platform was originally intended to be part of the ban, the Aussie government then changed its mind on that saying it's an important educational platform. But now the platforms that are included in the ban are fuming. In fact, three of them have just submitted formal responses to the government's decision. Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, says it "makes a mockery of the government's stated intention to protect young people". While Snapchat has accused the government of "preferential treatment" and TikTok has compared it to the idea of banning soft drinks for kids, while exempting Coca-Cola. WOOLLY MICE In what has to be a first, Colossal Woolly Mice have been genetically modified to have thick fur. The lush, locked Rodents were created by a biotech company in Texas who wanted to mimic the traits of the extinct Woolly Mammoth in the hopes of one day bringing them back. The next step could applying the same genetic engineering techniques to Asian Elephants, the closest living relative of Woolly Mammoths. PANCAKE RACE Run, Flip, Run, Flip - that's the perspective of participants at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race in London where teams race in fancy dress while tossing pancakes. EIFFEL TOWER If you're looking for a new way to view the Eiffel Tower, well good news. They've just installed a 40 metre long suspension bridge that sits 60 metres above the ground and connects the towers south and north pillars. __________________________________________ Subscribe https://www.youtube.com/behindthenews...
