My second day in Kigali brought me to the Hôtel des Mille Collines, also known as the "Hotel Rwanda." It was here that hotel manager (himself a Hutu) kept over 1,000 Tutsis safe inside of the hotel grounds; it is for this reason that he is regarded as a modern day Oskar Schindler. After touring the hotel, I headed into downtown Kigali for a quick coffee at the Camellia cafe, then headed out of town. I hopped on board a minibus and travelled to the south of Rwanda, to the city of Huye / Butare, which would be my launching point to the Murambi genocide memorial the following day.
