JOIN BROADCAST PLAZA TODAY, DISCORD'S MEDIA DISCUSSION COMMUNITY — http://bit.ly/S31MA Complete montage of opens and rejoins from Gray's ABC affiliate in Biloxi-Gulfport-Pascagoula, Mississippi. All except the 4.30am open were recorded on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, while the 4.30am open came from Wednesday, January 11. On Monday, January 9th, WLOX debuted a brand new set (really nice for the market size and not really a Gray-set-in-a-box like WJHG has), replacing their old set from 2011 (which was definitely a cheap FX design Raycom installed at most of their smaller market stations around this time as they converted them all to HD). Coinciding with the new set debut was a new graphics package, put together by the former Gray Graphics Hub team (that hub has largely been subsumed by the former Meredith creative teams, but they have yet to do any new work, aside from Atlanta News First, as Gray continues to integrate Meredith's stations into the company and consolidate the workflows — so for now, the old hub's packages remain available to the legacy Gray/Raycom group). This design has been seen on countless Gray station and I have no clue what the name of it is. Finally, they also decided to update the music, changing from "Extreme" over to a mix of "Indie-Band News" and the new "Unite" packages, both of which share a signature but as far as I know are distinct packages. Indie-Band's OG cuts also celebrate their 15th birthday this year, and I have no clue why stations (including sister station WALA in the adjacent Mobile-Pensacola market) are picking it up lately — even the WTIC updates sound better than the original themes. They did NOT change the voiceover however, so you'll still get to have Eric Gordon announcing the opens. I had never seen this station's product before and honestly, it's the best in the market but that doesn't mean it's spectacular by any means — they clearly struggle to fill their shows but this is expected in a small market. If covering CPR training for the station's employees is considered news, then that means there was no actual news happening that day. I am still glad that longtimers David Elliot and Karen Abernathy are still around though — they're definitely a part of a dying breed as more veterans retire, make a career change, or are shown the door. I hope they stick around for years to come. WLOX is obviously the market leader: their only other competition is WXXV whose operation is much newer than WLOX's. Anchors include Jaimee Dorris, Chet Landry, meteorologist Wesley Williams, David Elliot, Karen Abernathy, Jennifer Lott, and Hugh Keeton. 0:00 - WLOX First Alert Weather (they only use this bump at 4.30am – none of their other shows have their own variations) 0:30 - Good Morning Mississippi open (4.30am — no difference between the other hours) 1:25 - Good Morning Mississippi tease/open (6am) 2:22 - Good Morning Mississippi tease/bottom-of-hour open (6.30am) 3:15 - WLOX News Now Midday tease/open 4:17 - The 4 O'Clock Show open 5:20 - WLOX News Now at 5 tease/open 6:33 - WLOX News Now at 5 rejoin 7:14 - WLOX News Now at 6 tease/open 8:27 - WLOX News Now at 6 rejoin 9:00 - WLOX News Now at 10 tease/open 9:37 - WLOX News Now at 10 rejoin ©2023 Gray Media Group and WLOX-TV, no copyright infringement intended.
