This railfanning trip starts at the 12th & Vultee Street Railroad Crossing in Allentown, PA. I wanted to see if I could hear switching action on my radio scanner. While it did work for a while - in fact, that's how I new there was a train headed for the crossing - I kept getting horribly-loud interference from other sources of which I wasn't sure. For that reason, I had to move to a new location. On my way out, the crossing activated again, so I filmed the second train from inside the car. This I went to the S 7th Street Railroad Crossing in Emmaus, PA. I had much better results. The S 7th Street railroad crossing is a lot louder than the S 6th Street crossing, thanks in part to the two bells, one on each side. Despite this, the gate motors are a lot quieter at this crossing. The tracks at this crossing keep making loud metallic popping, scraping and thumping sounds, which usually happen when I train is near. There are four approach-lit signals near this crossing 291W, 292W, 291E and 292E. You'll also hear the defect detector for Milepost 29.9.
