Verolanuova's new bell tower was built in 1907 because the old 15th century Gothic tower was declared unsafe. The old bells from 1748 were recast into a new concert of nine bells. The new 60-metre tower houses one of the most beautiful bell concerts in Italy, made in 1910 in the mountains by the Pruneri foundry, legendary for the beauty of its bells. The silhouettes of the new bells were designed by a famous composer living in the town, who had fallen in love with the bells of St. Mark's Square in Venice as a young man. The concert was made in the same key of A major, and the total weight of the bells was 110.26 quintals of bronze. The new bells were blessed by the bishop in 1911 and are almost all original except number 4, which broke in 1934. The bells were saved from wartime requisition because they were known for their beauty, so the Germans decided to spare them. On the high altar is an exceptional antique wooden structure, made in the 18th century and assembled every year according to local tradition. The altar has 268 wax candles, which are lit before the celebrations by volunteers who climb ladders many metres high. The original church of Verolanuova was built in the early 12th century on the foundations of an old chapel. The church was ceded because it was too small in 1630 to the confraternity, in exchange for a nearby plot of land on which one of the most beautiful churches in the entire north was built. The church is entirely frescoed and very famous for its magnificent 9-metre painted canvases, located in the transepts, over which an enormous dome is built, all completely frescoed in perspective by the best artists of that century. The church presents a rich Baroque style, tending towards Renaissance taste. #italy #bells #church #bell #feast #landscape #catholic #spring #catholicchurch #view #sun #Easter #cinematic
