Airdate: March 9, 1968 Once again, the clairvoyant producers of Bandstand play a hit song long before it tops the charts. “Cry Like A Baby”, the closing song on today’s episode, was just released last week and is not even in the top 40 yet. By late April it will rise to #2 for 2 weeks, kept out of the top spot both weeks by Bobby Goldsboro‘s “Honey”. The “giant hit song” and “Dylan masterpiece” by next week’s guest, Manfred Mann, is “Mighty Quinn”. As the kids walk onto the dance floor you can see stadium style seating instead of the usual bleachers. Whenever ABC Television Center Studio 54 or 55 on Prospect Avenue (where the show was usually filmed) was being used for something else, the show would move up the road to either Hollywood Palace or to the ABC Vine Street Theatre…where they had the stadium seats. As the show is experimenting a bit here in ‘68 with the ethereal silhouette lighting, it is difficult to see the dancers today, but on the riser you can see Famous Hooks and Jenny Nichols. Famous and Jenny just won new Volkswagen Beetles about a month ago in the ’68 Dance Contest. …..And this is my last post for the year. Thank you everyone for your views, likes, subscriptions, and support as the channel has grown over the last year. This has been an absolute joy finding and sharing these clips of this incredible show taped in this equally incredible era. I have really enjoyed reading your comments (well, most of them anyways lol) especially from the “the channel regulars”. It has also been a thrill getting to chat with some of the “Bandstand Regulars” who were there like Peggy (Waggoner) Names and Don Sanuskar, who has generously shared his first-hand experiences of being on the show. I hope to be back soon with many more clips but until then, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
