Meet Keith Watson and Ruth Barber of Boogertown Gap, the old-time string band. Boogertown Gap is a GSMA Lookout League member and generously supports our video projects, such as the Smoky Mountain Explorer Series, with the use of their music. Their collection of traditional ballads and timeless tunes perfectly complements the story of cultural history in the Smokies. Keith and Ruth are both accomplished musicians who have mastered multiple instruments between them, from banjo, fiddle and guitar to washboard, penny whistle and spoons. Ruth's family has been hiking the Smokies since before the park was established as founding members of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club. Keith traces his Smokies roots back for over two centuries. The music of his ancestors is prevalent among Boogertown Gap's performances and recordings. Keith and Ruth also perform at many GSMA and park events, and Keith has even been known to share his knowledge by leading birding programs for GSMA. Sit back and enjoy a sampling of music they performed for us at Noah Bud Ogle Cabin, a place Keith's ancestors once called home. Thank you, Boogertown Gap, for keeping this music alive and for your continued support for GSMA and the park!
