Our Electric Narrowboat Systems | On Walkabout

Walkabout is a 60ft traditional layout narrowboat built by Elton Moss. We took delivery in March 2025 and have been living on board as continuous cruisers since May 2025. Walkabout is fully electric, meaning the propulsion is electric and we don’t have any gas onboard. We still rely on diesel/HVO for heating and running the generator. We have 8 x 100 Ah lithium iron phosphate (LiFePo4/LFP) batteries for domestic use and propulsion. We have 1.2KW of solar panels and would recommend 2.4KW. The generator is a Fischer Panda 12KW 48V which will take the batteries from 30% to 80% in two hours. We use the WaterFreedom water filtration system for our water supply. It filters water from the canal into our 280lt water tank and then uses reverse osmosis to filter the water in the tank for drinking water. This system is game changing.
