"We are all children of our first parents, and whether we realize it or not, our family and parents, including extended family, ancestors and culture are integral to our system, how does this influence us? The same holds true for our own children who are part of this shared system, what do we pass down to them and how do they navigate the inherited parts of our shared background" Rooted in the embodied archives of communities shaped by conflict, migration, silence, and survival, Descendants is a performative interrogation in movements both emotionally, physically and historically those that shape who we become from what had been. With contemporary movements rooted in Acholi aesthetics, spoken-word, poetry, and traditional patrimonial motifs, Descendants traces the invisible threads passed from ancestor to child, from one body to the next. It is a choreographic exploration of remembrance and a ritual of reconciliation, reclaimant, an offering to those who came before and a question posed to those who will follow.
