Breastplate of Righteousness | Armor Of God Pt 3 | EP138

In Armor of God Pt 3: Breastplate of Righteousness, Walking The Text founder Brad Gray examines the purpose of the breastplate in a Roman soldier’s armor. The breastplate was designed to protect the soldier’s vital organs. As we saw in the last episode, the first three items of armor were to be worn at all times. In other words, we should always guard and protect the very core of who we are. Consequently, Paul connects the breastplate with the Hebrew concept of righteousness. And when you look at the Hebrew Scriptures, the word righteousness refers to the standard of being in right relationship. Righteousness is relational, and relationships are at the core of who we are. In fact, the Scriptures allude to four primary relationships that make up our lives: Our relationship with God, our relationship with each other, our relationship with ourselves, and our relationship with creation. Ultimately, because relationships are at the core of who we are, putting on the breastplate of righteousness means protecting our core by preserving and pursuing right relationships. And the enemy’s number one purpose is to wreck relationships. By the end of Armor of God Pt 3: Breastplate of Righteousness, you’ll understand just how critical it is to be vigilant about preserving and pursuing right relationships!
