At MedStar Union Memorial hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, Richard Hinton, MD, MPH, PT, demonstrates a five-strand hamstring ACL reconstruction technique. Dr Hinton has developed this new graft preparation technique, in which he takes a standard hamstring autograft and augments it with an additional strand from the hamstring tendon. This technique was developed to provide additional strength and volume to a hamstring ACL reconstruction. Dr. Hinton is the Medical director of MedStar Sports Medicine North. He is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in adult and adolescent sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. He is the associate team physician for the Baltimore Ravens and head team physician for the US Women's Lacrosse team, Morgan State University, St. Paul's School, and Notre Dame Prep. He also serves as orthopaedic team physician for Towson University. For more information on this technique demonstrated in this video, or for media interviews with Dr. Hinton, call Debra Schindler, Regional Director of Media and Public Relations for MedStar Health: 410-554-2496, or (cell) 410-274-1260.
