The King has approved an official period of mourning which will last up to and including the day of her funeral. Born Katharine Lucy Mary Worsley in Yorkshire in 1933, she married the Duke of Kent in 1961. The King, who is at Balmoral, was informed of her death late last night. It is understood that he last saw the duchess at a private family occasion.
