The Giant Fish Statue cited cultural significance of Epe as a home of fishing activities and that the Monument portrayed contemporary Epe as the export point for fish in Lagos, noting that fishing is the main occupation of indigenes. "The Fish statue is a celebration of communal economic activities centered on the vast potentials available in the coastal area, such as fishing, marine transportation, and job opportunities," A road junction at the entrance into Epe from the Lekki-Epe Expressway features a sculpture of two giant fish, erected by the Lagos State Government. Notable higher institutions like Lagos State University(LASU), Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State University of Education(LASUED) (Formerly known as Michael Otedola College of Primary Education - MOCPED)., Pan-Atlantic University(PAU), St. Augustine university, all have campuses in Epe area of Lagos, Nigeria. It's in Close proximity with the dangote Refinery at Eleko, Ibeju lekki
