The rarest #arcade game in our collection is back from beyond the grave. Skip to 14 minutes in if you don't want 14 minutes straight of Liam talking... Inferno was an in-house designed machine from Williams Electronics. It was primarily designed by Python Anghelo, with Bill Pfutzenreuter, Bill Parod, Ed Suchocki, Mark Loffredo, and Lou Isbitz also on the team. It was released in the summer of 1985 to little fanfare, placing it between Turkey Shoot and Joust II in the Williams chronology. Only 50 units of Inferno were said to have been made, and even fewer are known to survive today. It was a departure from Williams' usual cabinet design, with the monitor in Inferno tilted back about 30 degrees, and an extended control panel lying right up on the glass. In Inferno, you are the "Born Hero" fighting against the demonic forces of the Grand Lizard. Kill Cyclops and claim their black souls before they can return to the maw of the Grand Lizard and reemerge stronger than before. Or follow them into the Lizard's maw to trigger an Inferno wave, where you must destroy a horde of imps before the playfield burns away. Truly, a really fun machine, that if it hadn't arrived right at the total collapse of the arcade market, I believe would have been a great success for Williams. I'm glad that we were able to do a #restoration of this machine, and hope that we'll be good custodians of it in the years to come. 0:00 - Intro 0:28 - Backstory 1:40 - What is Inferno? 3:40 - Initial Condition 4:30 - Restoring Inferno 14:17 - Restored Inferno Showcase 18:36 - Gameplay 25:06 - Closing Thoughts
