The Meidum Pyramid, built by Pharaoh Sneferu, stands near the town of Meidum in Egypt. Originally designed as a step pyramid and later transformed into a true pyramid, it was an innovative architectural venture at the time. Sneferu altered the design during construction, aiming for a larger pyramid in anticipation of a long life. However, upon relocating the government, he shifted focus to the Bent Pyramid and then the Red Pyramid at Dahshur, ultimately choosing the latter as his tomb. The Meidum Pyramid underwent several construction phases, reflecting the evolution from a step to a true pyramid. Its construction techniques and the labor involved are partially understood from graffiti found on stones and the ruins themselves. The pyramid began with a base of 105 meters and seven terraces, which was then expanded to eight terraces with a base of 120 meters. The final phase aimed to create a 93-meter-tall pyramid with a base of 147 meters.Despite the uncertainties regarding the completion of the final stage, the Meidum Pyramid's current ruined state offers insight into ancient engineering methods. Its internal structure departs from previous designs by having the burial chamber within the pyramid body rather than underground. Also significant is the pyramid complex, which included a temple that has not survived but was once a vital component of the site. The Meidum Pyramid, although never used as Sneferu's tomb, remains a testament to the architectural transitions during Egypt's Fourth Dynasty.
