Let's Talk About Asian Hate!

"Stop Asian hate" "Hate has no place" "I am not a virus" "Asian lives matter" "We belong here" These are one of many messages shared across America, throughout the world. But I don't see much attention to the underlying problems, why is that? Why isn't the media reporting on asian hate crimes? Why are people staying silent? Why aren't we doing anything about them? With the sharp rise in racially charged hate crimes towards people of Asian descent, there's been more verbal abuse, robberies, assaults, rapes, killings, and even mass shootings; the majority of these victims being the elderly and women. Many of these incidents unreported, nowhere to be seen. It's saddening to hear personal accounts of my friends and family experiencing these horrific incidents first hand, especially those from my neighborhood. This makes me very uncomfortable and worried not just for myself, but for the Asian community, and my own family. It's crazy to see how even in 2021, we seem to be moving backwards towards more inequality. I don't understand why it's so hard for everyone to love and respect each other. Asian lives matter, but this is not to say that all lives do not matter. Rather, this is to bring to attention that "Asian lives matter too", as much as anyone else's. In Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month, I ask that we learn, recognize, and celebrate the influence and contributions these fusions of cultures have brought throughout American history. We welcome the Asian community, my community, with open arms. We belong here, we deserve to be here. Love everyone. If you see something, say something.
