The Varanasi International Cricket Stadium is an under-construction cricket stadium in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Here are the key details about the project: Status: Currently under construction. The foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2023. Expected Completion: The project is generally expected to be completed by December 2025 or early 2026. Capacity: It is designed to have a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators, which can be expandable up to 40,000. Location: It is being built on a 30-acre plot of land in the Rajatalab area of Varanasi. Architectural Theme: The stadium's unique design is heavily inspired by Lord Shiva and the cultural essence of Varanasi (Kashi), featuring: Trident-shaped (Trishul) floodlights. Crescent-shaped roof covers (symbolic of the moon on Shiva's head). Seating arrangements resembling the Ghat steps of Varanasi. Metallic sheets on the facade shaped like Bilva-patra (wood apple leaves). A media centre shaped like a Damaru (a small drum associated with Shiva). Significance: Upon completion, it will be the fourth international cricket stadium in Uttar Pradesh after Green Park in Kanpur, Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, and Saifai International Cricket Stadium in Etawah. It is also the first stadium in UP to be developed directly by the BCCI.
