Discover Australia's most underrated destination - Magnetic Island! Filled with incredible wildlife and beautiful sights, including koalas, rock wallabies, and the stunning Forts Walk. If you're looking for a unique and off-the-beaten-path destination in Australia, Magnetic Island is a must-visit! We take the Spirit of Queensland train from Cairns to Townsville, uber to the ferry terminal, and then ferry from Townsville to Magnetic Island where we hop on a bus to the Selina hotel, a beautiful spot out in nature where you can stay in a bus, cabin, or a GLAMPING TENT! It's our first time glamping, and we are loving the spot surrounded by wildlife and nature. Just a few minutes walk from the hotel behind the skate park we find a field FULL of hundreds of wallabies. Next we take the bus to Arcadia Hotel for Australia's most ridiculous, random fundraiser, the Cane Toad Races! It is so fun to witness this 40 year old tradition raising money for the Arcadia Surf Life Savings Club! After our first night of glamping, we enjoy breakfast at our hotel, and head to The Forts Walk, a hike to a WWII fort where we're hoping to se koalas IN THE WILD!!! And we do!!!! Eight of them including two of the cutest babies! This is more than I could have ever dreamed of! Best day ever!!!!! The views of the island and it's beaches are also incredible, and it is such a fun way to walk through history as we climb the ladders into the historic forts. Back at Selina hotel we join the bird feeding that happens every day at 4:15. They slop pureed watermelon into your hand, and the parrots swarm. It is ridiculous fun. We have one more animal to meet before we leave the island, and head to Geoffrey Bay to feed the rock wallabies! They are so tiny and cute, and we see one with a joey!!! So special!!!
