Let us know what album you'd like us to review next! • Recorded on February 11th, 1963 mainly in a single day (10 of 14 songs) – Debut Album • 14 songs, but only 32 Minutes • Was recorded in a rushed fashion after debut single “Love Me Do” had reached a high of #17 on the UK chart the previous October. • Ranked 39th by Rolling Stone on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all-time • Helped begin the then unusual trend of bands writing their own material. • All original songs were credited to “McCartney-Lennon”; the more familiar “Lennon-McCartney” became a staple with their second album – With the Beatles. 1. I Saw Her Standing There (McCartney): Ranked No. 139 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. In December 1963, Capitol Records released the song in the U S as the B-side on the label's first single by the Beatles, "I Want to Hold Your Hand". 2. Misery (Lennon w/McCartney) – Written for Helen Shapiro, biggest female singer in England at the time, but wasn’t considered good enough for her. 3. Anna (Go to Him) (Lennon) - Originally recorded by Arthur Alexander, Lennon is with Anna but she says another loves her more so he sets her free even though he loves her as well. 4. Chains (Harrison) – Originally recorded by The Cookies, George Harrison sings the lead vocal, it represents the first time many fans heard Harrison singing lead on a commercially released song. 5. Boys – (Star) – Originally recorded by The Shirelles, Ringo’s first recorded lead vocal, Had been signing it for years, Pete Best was the original singer. 6. Ask Me Why (Lennon) – 7. Please Please Me (Lennon w/McCartney) – Rolling Stone ranked the song at number 184 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It was their 2nd single in the UK and 1st the US. 8. Love Me Do (McCartney w/Lennon)– Started B Side, Probably written in 1958 - debut single. When the single was originally released in the UK on 5 October 1962, i. 9. P.S. I Love You (McCartney)– This song was written entirely by Paul McCartney (though credited to McCartney-Lennon as all songs of that era were), and was his simple attempt at writing a “letter song”. 10. Baby It's You (Lennon) – Originally recorded by The Shirelles. 11. Do You Want to Know a Secret (Harrison) - US, it was the first top ten song to feature Harrison as a lead singer, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard chart in 1964. Secret is he is in love with her. 12.
