Verse 12: “‘But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him; but they did to him whatever they desired. In like manner also, the Son of man is about to suffer from them.’ Then the disciples understood that He was speaking to them about John the Baptist” (vs 12-13). How do we know that there’s another Elijah coming? Malachi 4vs1: “‘For behold, the day is coming, burning like a consuming oven; and all the proud, and every doer of wickedness, shall be stubble. And the day that comes shall burn them up,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘and will leave them neither root nor branch.’” Did Jesus do any of this with His first coming? No! He came to: • reveal the Father • show us how to keep the commandments of God • show us what we need to do to receive eternal life • prepare us for the resurrection Verse 2: “But unto you who fear My name, the Sun…” It’s not Son, but we’re told to not worship the sun, moon or stars.
