Season 1, Episode 7 – Making of TIK TOK Apartments renovation series. Climbing the ladder again… something I really don’t enjoy 😅 In this episode of the renovation, I tackle a job that should have been simple — removing and replacing an old awning. Of course, nothing comes off easy. The panels were glued and siliconed so tightly that most of the metal parts were destroyed just trying to remove them. Under this awning is where the laundry machines live, so keeping weather protection was essential. The awning was beyond repair, which meant full removal: presswood side panels, plastic roof sheets, seized hardware, tight spaces, wires everywhere — and plenty of frustration. A few days later, it was time to clean the exterior in preparation for painting. Years of dirt, bugs, and bird mess needed serious attention, starting with a high-pressure wash, followed by brushing and sanding where needed. Before installing the new roof panels, the walls underneath had to be painted first. That led to a last-minute color change (never a relaxing decision 😬), especially since the area under the awning stays permanently shaded. Just as the new paint went on… a storm rolled in. And to top it off, when it came time to replace the panels, the exact color I wanted wasn’t available in the quantity I needed — forcing yet another decision on the fly.
