📍 On June 20, a delegation from the SMARTNESS Engineering Research Center visited Ericsson’s facilities in Budapest for a day of high-level technical exchange and collaboration. 🎥 To share their impressions, Arthur Simas (Ph.D. student at UNICAMP) and Alireza Shirmarz (Postdoctoral researcher at UFSCar) recorded a short video reflecting on the experience. They described the research they presented, the feedback received from Ericsson experts, and how this dialogue helped shape the next steps in their investigations, in areas ranging from cloud gaming traffic classification to neuromorphic computing. Leveraging the trip to attend IEEE NetSoft 2025 in Budapest, the SMARTNESS delegation also included Marcelo Caggiani Luizelli (UNIPAMPA) and a group of graduate and early-career researchers from UNICAMP and UFSCar: Ariel Góes De Castro, Alan Teixeira da Silva, Filipo Gabert Costa, Francisco Germano Vogt, Mateus de Nuzzi Bragatto, and Sérgio Rossi Brito da Silva. The team presented ongoing research from the SMART NEtworks and ServiceS for 2030 (SMARTNESS) project, with topics including network programmability, QoE optimization, AR/CG traffic prioritization, time-sensitive networking (TSN), neuromorphic computing, and volumetric media. Ericsson researchers shared insights on the DESIRE6G architecture and developments in programmable data planes, contributing to a productive technical dialogue and identifying new opportunities for collaboration. Beyond strengthening the institutional partnership between SMARTNESS and Ericsson, the visit also offered valuable learning and networking experiences for the early-career researchers, who are also presenting their work at IEEE NetSoft 2025.
