Part 1 of a paddling journey covering more than 14 miles along the Ocklawaha River toward Rodman Reservoir. This segment documents the first half of the reservoir approach. Along the way: abundant birdlife, multiple alligator encounters, and long stretches of quiet Florida wilderness — alongside clear signs of how human alteration reshaped the river corridor. During the paddle, I actively searched for natural springs and historic water sources that were once connected to the river but have since been flooded or buried in sediment by the reservoir. I was able to locate several of them — subtle, partially hidden reminders of the landscape that existed before impoundment. This trip captures the scars left by human intervention on nature and shows how the reservoir transformed the surrounding ecosystems.
