UNE College of Business Hosted Spark Conversation with Entrepreneur and Author David Shaw

The University of New England College of Business hosted a Spark Conversation, "Entrepreneurship for Powerful Change," on Nov. 5, 2025, in the Danielle N. Ripich Commons first floor atrium on the Biddeford Campus. The event ran from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and was free and open to the public. UNE President James D. Herbert, Ph.D., moderated a dynamic conversation with David Shaw, HON '22, a prominent American business and social entrepreneur known locally as the founder of IDEXX Laboratories. Shaw has helped build more than a dozen successful technology companies as a CEO or board member, while his career has included extensive public service in science, the arts, conservation, and public policy. Shaw, author of "Wave Making," shared insights on identifying opportunities, building purpose-driven organizations, and embracing struggle as a catalyst for innovation. Following the conversation, students engaged directly with Shaw and President Herbert through a Q&A session with a book signing following the event. Students, professionals, and community members learned practical strategies for entrepreneurial thinking and creating meaningful impact through business.
