Overlanding | 4x4 Trails | Wild Camping | Quick Pitch Adventures - Episode 1

We head off on an invitation to join up with Quick Pitch Adventures on their first ever Overlanding and 4x4 trails trip. With the whatsapp group created and buzzing with messages a few weeks before the trip it was now just a matter of putting names to faces and get the trip started. I headed up to Johannesburg a day before the trip was scheduled to start, some 16hours and 1400km later I arrived in Johannesburg met by Steve, Johan from Quick Pitch Adventures with a cold beer and boerie roll in hand.... man that was a long day! Eager to see the next day the night was not a long one, but quickly off to bed and get some much needed rest for the next 4 days that would lie ahead. Before the trip I headed off to Quick Pitch South Africa to check out their factory and what goes into making their amazing products. I was actually blown away by the team, the production, the quality and everything that goes into this brand or products. After a few hours at Quick Pitch it was time to head off to the Quick Pitch Adventure Centre, the starting point of the trip, where everyone would for the first time get to see those faces behind the whatsapp persona's we had become accustom to over the last few weeks. Needless to say one after another the vehicles all arrive and the mood was jovial to say the least. Lots of laughter and cold ones were had around the campfire where everyone was excited about what the next few days had install for us. A quick briefing from Steve and Johan and we were all set and knew what to expect for the trip. I have to be honest i was a little sceptical at what lay ahead as they had described tough 4x4 trails, tough climbs, tough tight tracks, pretty much everything an overlanding vehicle is NOT built for at all, but hey, i didn't drive for 16 hours to chicken out now... Surprised by and not having done 4x4 tracks and trails for many years since "The Donkey" became my overland rig and business tool, he did well, I tend to avoid routes like these as mistakes are costly and often lead to irreversible damage that take a long time to repair and never get 100% right again, BUT having said that, The Donkey unlike me was smooth calm and collected on all things thrown at him, didn't skip a beat. The tracks were tough, challenging and pretty much set out to test your skill all the way through. The rewards at the end of the day with breathe taking views and scenery were out of this world.
