River Kodayar makes a descend at this location and creates the mesmeric waterfall. The riverbed in this area is rocky and 300 ft in length. The height of the waterfall itself is 50 ft. The waterfall is present seven months in a year and is a popular spot among tourists who visit Kanniyakumari and the nearby areas. Located 13 km away from the Pechiparai Dam, the waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery that makes the spot all the more picturesque and a picture-perfect picnic spot. The bed above the falls is a rocky mass and extends upto quarter of a kilometre upstream. The Thiruparappu weir is located here and is responsible for supplying water to paddy fields. The reservoir was formed by the construction of the Pechiparai Dam, which was built across the Kodayar River about 1 mi (1.6 km) below the confluence of the Kallar, Chittar and Kuttiyar tributaries. The water from the reservoir is used for both irrigation of crops and for drinking purposes Perunchani dam ------------------------------ Perunchani dam is located about 62 Km. away from Kanniyakumari. Perunchani dams is an irrigation dam at Kalkulam taluk, Kanniyakumari District. It one of the dams of the Kodaiyar irrigation system. As there was a water deficiency in the Kodaiyar irrigation system, Perunchani dam was constructed in December 1952 to store flood water of the Paralayar river as an extension. Padmanabhapuram Palace ----------------------------------------------- An ancient palace with mesmerizing architecture, Padmanabhapuram Palace is a fine example of excellence of art and craftsmanship. This wooden palace, built in 16th century is sure to allure every visitor with its unparalleled beauty. Located at the foothills of Veli Hills, a part of Western Ghats in Thuckalay, this palace was built by Ravipillai Ravivarma Kulasekhara Perumal of Travancore Kingdom. Named after the lotus that comes out of the navel of Lord Vishnu, (Padma means lotus, nabha-navel, puram- town), Padmanabhapuram Palace used to be seat of power of erstwhile kingdom of Travancore from the 16th to the late 18th Century, which later shifted to Thiruvananthapuram. Although this palace is located in Kanyakumari of Tamil Nadu state, it comes under the administration of archeological department of Kerala. Vattakottai Fort ----------------------------- A coastal fort, Vattakottai Fort is built in 18th century during the reign of Travancore kingdom. It was under supervision of Captain Eustachius De Lannoy, during the rule of Travancore King Marthanda Varma (1729- 1758) this fort was built. Vattakottai Fort has been declared as protected site and come under the administration of Indian archaeological department. It has been restored and developed as a tourist attraction.
