Further thanks to onedunpark, Brian's Wig and riku for getting both tapes out to the world! This is the first show of Queen's final tour through North America. The reasons for this decision have been discussed immensely already and I only care about the performances so I won't bore you with another explanation of why things turned out the way they did. It's way more interesting to take a look at the setlist anyway, as various changes have been made: "The Hero" is gone for now and makes place for "Rock It" off "The Game" since that album - in contrast to "Hot Space" - was a smash hit in America. For now, the full song is played with only the finale of "We Will Rock You" appearing at the end but towards the end of the tour the band would cut the song down to its intro and go into the "full" version of "We Will Rock You". All 1982 performances of the song are done in a lower key to accomodate Freddie's overall weaker show on this leg. Brian has obviously forgotten about this tonight, as he begins the song in its original key, as Freddie points out to him after the first few chords. Still, the European show intro with "The Hero" would be played a couple of times as well. Two "new" songs are added with Roger's first ever single release, "Calling All Girls" and "Body Language" returns, being played as an encore on the first two evenings. Both songs would be played at every remaining show of the tour. As the band still didn't want to play for more than roughly 90 minutes per show, two cuts were made tonight: "Somebody to Love" has lost its permanent slot and would be put on rotation and "Love of My Life" has been cut for the entire leg (the first time it's omitted from a Queen show in over three years when they dropped it for the fifth show in Tokyo 1979 due to Freddie's voice being completely shot) as Queen probably felt like the song didn't have as much of a connection with the American audiences as well as looking for an overall heavier show to prove America they were still able to rock! Tonight also features one of only two known US/Canadian performances of "Back Chat", making this the show with the highest number of "Hot Space" songs being played: six in total. As for the performance, while the energy tonight is still present, especially with Fred Mandel's first show with the band, there are already signs of both the band and Freddie himself being tired of touring, like Freddie forgetting lyrics here and there and the band playing it safe here and there. 00:00:00 - 01.
